Five Unique Ways to Bring the Outdoors In

There's just something about summer that reignites our passion for the outdoors and makes us want to be outside all of the time. We came up with five unique ways to bring the outdoors in to at least enjoy the elements of the outdoors all of the time.

1. Use Natural Décor

Switch up your interior decor with the use of natural materials. Change out an area rug, curtains, throw pillows and blankets and replace them with light, earth-toned, organic materials. A woven rug, a wood lighting fixture, or furniture with natural wood elements will have a big impact on the overall feel of any room in your home.

Adding elements with natural materials such as a woven rug, furniture and decor, or lighting is an easy and subtle way to bring the outdoors into your home.

2. Get Inspired

Take a walk outside and gather sticks, shells, sea glass, rocks, leaves or flowers and turn them into an art project. Keep a collection of things you find on display in a decorative jar as a project you can add to over time. A wall of framed pressed flowers or ferns makes a nice statement and identifying the plants you find is a fun way to get to know your local flora (or keep the kids occupied for a while).

3. Put Your Greens On Display

Small potted herbs, succulents or botanicals are a great way to bring the outdoors in and add a little life to your home decor. Bring small doses of green into your home with plants and herbs from your garden. We like the idea of lining potted plants up on a window sill or shelf or hanging pots on a wall as a unique wall decoration.

4. Make Lemon(ade) Floral Arrangements

Get creative with centerpieces. Line a glass pitcher or vase with lemon slices to display fresh picked flowers from your garden or local market. Use a drinking glass to help keep the lemons in place and keep the flowers' water source separate to keep them fresh longer.

5. Don't Forget The Corners

Bigger is bigger. A larger plant makes a larger impact and can be enjoyed year round. A potted tree, a cactus or a large succulent is a great way to bring in a piece of the outdoors. If you don't have a green thumb, artificial botanicals are a great option. Stick to placing large plants or trees in corners of rooms so they don't become the focal point of the room, just a welcoming accent.
