Area Rugs, Accent Rugs & Hallway Runners

Explore area rugs, accent rugs, and hallway runners at Riverbend Home to find options to enhance your interior spaces with softness, color, and style. More than just a decorative accent, an area rug can be used on any floor—even a carpeted one—to define the boundaries of a space, to add plush comfort beneath your feet, and to add color and texture to a room. Our selection of round, rectangular, square, and kidney-shaped rugs includes a wide range of sizes, styles, and materials to suit your needs. Choose from small 2' x 3' accent rugs, sprawling 10' x 13' rugs, narrow hallway runners from 6 to 13 feet long, and several options between. We offer indoor rugs from Surya, Elk Lifestyle, Nourison, Chesapeake, and other top brands.

How to Choose a Rug

With so many options for sizes, styles, and materials, knowing where to start when choosing an area rug can be daunting. To narrow your selections, here are several things to consider:

Size

A rug that is too large may actually make a space seem smaller, while one that is too small can lead to an unbalanced aesthetic in your room and make the furniture seem to float. To choose the right size rug, consider the overall size of the space, the arrangement of your furniture, and the traffic patterns through the room. A living room rug should be large enough that the front legs of all of your furniture rest on top of it. In a dining room or bedroom, your rug should extend approximately two feet beyond the edges of the furniture it rests beneath to allow space for scooting back seats, or for a soft landing for your feet when you climb out of bed. In a hallway, choose a floor runner that stretches the length of the space but allows for four to five inches of visible flooring along each side. Accent rugs—also called throw or scatter rugs—are typically smaller than 4 x 6 feet, and add texture and color to an entryway or kitchen, in front of a fireplace, and in other constrained areas. For accent rugs, choose a size that feels proportional to the space it will fill, opting for slightly larger dimensions than the doorframe, kitchen sink, oven, or fireplace in front of it.

Material

Our collection of area and accent rugs includes options in a range of natural and synthetic fibers to suit varying preferences and priorities. Rugs handwoven, hand tufted, hand knotted, or hand loomed in natural fibers, including wool, jute, seagrass, cotton, and leather, tend to be comfortable, easy to clean, and ultra-durable. A wool rug, for example, can last as many as 50 years without its color or pattern fading. Machine-made polypropylene rugs and other synthetic options, in contrast, have a much shorter lifespan than natural alternatives, but they're often as plush and comfortable. Crafted in polypropylene, polyester, and rayon, our budget-friendly synthetic rugs are ideal for high-traffic and spill-prone areas, including a child's bedroom or playroom, an entryway, or a dining room, or wherever you might want to swap out the style frequently.

Style & Color

We offer rugs in a wide range of colors, patterns, and styles to enhance your interiors. Choose a rug that will complement, but not overwhelm, the rest of your décor. If your furniture, artwork, and decorative accents are bright, colorful, and patterned, opt for a solid or subtly patterned area rug. Seagrass and jute rugs make excellent options in neutrals that complement any décor. For high-traffic areas or in homes with kids, consider rugs in darker colors or designs that could easily camouflage dirt, spills, or stains. Brighten up any room with a colorful medallion rug, a bold geometric rug, or a vibrant striped rug, or complement your traditional décor with deep, rich tones. We also offer accent rugs with graphic designs or sentiments to add distinctive style in a bathroom or entryway.
