Installing a Faucet with Speed Connect Makes It Easy

Assembling and adjusting the drain can be the hardest part of installing a faucet in the bathroom.

With traditional linkage and rod drain assemblies containing up to 14 parts, even an experienced plumber may take a while to complete the task. And while installing a faucet is a great project for a newbie do-it-yourselfer (and a relatively fast, inexpensive style update), it can get frustrating.

American Standard to the rescue! The company describes its solid brass Speed Connect Drain as “the pre-assembled drain that makes American Standard the easiest brand bathroom faucet to install.”

We talked to Dennis Guilbeault at American Standard to get the inside story on Speed Connect. Why does it make installing a faucet fast for professionals and easy for amateurs?

“Start with the fact that you're dealing with only four parts instead of 14,” Dennis told us. “The drain comes fully assembled in the box, and the flexible design means you don't need to spend a lot of time adjusting it. You don't even need any special tools or plumber's putty.”

We Asked About Long-Term Maintenance

“That's another special feature,” he said. “Most traditional assemblies loosen up over time. The pop-up sits lower and lower, the sink has trouble draining, and the assembly can even come apart. The Speed Connect lift rod never does that. Once the drain is in, it stays exactly where you want it.”

All American Standard bathroom faucets include Speed Connect pop-up drains. One more unique bonus: During installation you can easily adjust the drain to allow removal of the stopper for cleaning out debris that may get caught in the drain assembly.
