Holiday Spiced Hot Chocolate

This holiday spiced hot chocolate recipe combines cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and a touch of cayenne pepper to add a lot of flavor to this comforting, all-time favorite beverage. Holiday Spiced Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- 2 cups half and half
- 2 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish
- 1/2 vanilla pod
- 1/4 tsp. fresh ground nutmeg
- Scant pinch cayenne pepper
- 4 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped or morsels
- 4 oz. milk chocolate, chopped or morsels
- 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
- 2 oz. dark rum
Equipment:
- Stainless steel saucepan
- Measuring cups
- Whisk
- Coffee or tea mugs
- Ladle strainer (optional)
Directions:
Bring milk, brown sugar and spices to a simmer in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then turn off heat and steep for 15 minutes. Bring back to a simmer, add chocolate and sugar, then whisk until smooth. Stir in rum off the heat if using. Divide hot chocolate among four mugs and garnish each with a cinnamon stick.
